On this International Women's Day we wanted to celebrate the women in our family business here at Sam's Cider and the role they play in an industry that many might think is a man's game.
Jen and Kylie swap the boardroom for the bar at the North Devon Show
Kylie Beardon is right at the top of Sam's Cider as a co-director of the business along with her father David Bridgman and husband Chris. Kylie said:
"It may come as a surprise to some who only know Sam's for the cider they drink that behind the scenes the company is run in many areas by women. I look after the finances, Jen is our office manager and Becky is the sales manager. It goes to show that your gender doesn't matter when it comes to running a business."
Becky's not keen on her photo being taken but her trademark smile is clear
The theme for this year's International Women's Day is #Balanceforbetter and that's certainly the way of things at Sam's Cider. The business isn't dominated by either sex and having both genders involved helps to shape the products produced and how they're sold to appeal to all adults as Kylie explains:
"We have drinkers who like our more traditional ciders and others who favour our session cider and fruit ciders. But here in our shop at our base in Winkleigh we get men and women buying cider for themselves, their friends and their partners and our branding appeals to all adults regardless of their gender."
This is who we are at Sam's Cider - The True Taste of Devon Cider.
